Sean's Official Guide Empty Sean's Official Guide

Post by Sean Wed Dec 07, 2011 5:30 am

((This guide will be correct as of the server relaunch later this month. Please check for updates here.))

This guide is designed to teach new players on the server the rules we have, and the commands used in-game, created to ease the stress-load on the admin team. It's also written in Rich Text, so you can load it up in your steam browser easily too. Please read through the guide with care, and please feel free to refer back to it, at any time.

Getting Started

Our server operates on a log-in system, i.e., you must register and log in, before you can leave the spawn area. Doing so is very simple. Think of a username and password, then open your chat bar, and type in the following (case sensitive) :

Code:
/register username password

Example: /register Sean ishawesome
Sean would be my username, "ishawesome" would be my password.

Once you've done that, you will receive a message, something similar to "Account (username) was created successfully." With that done, it's time to log in - open your chat bar again, and enter:

Code:
/login username password

Example: /login Sean ishawesome

If you've done it right, a message will appear, informing you that you've successfully authenticated as the username. If it's not worked, check that you are using the right case (both parts of login are case sensitive.). Should it still not work, there may be a problem with the groups settings - please contact Sean regarding this as soon as possible.

All commands in the rest of the guide are for registered, logged in users only, unless otherwise noted. All future commands are used in chat, unless otherwise specified.

Once logged in, you can use the following to leave the "jail":

Code:
/ireadtherules

The Basics

Upon logging in for the first time, you will receive a message, informing you that you now have a "Shard pouch".

For those of you wondering what shards are, they are our server currency (it means you don't need to bring money into the server - minimum risk eh?), replacing the costs of most services on the server. You can use them to buy new items, unlock new ranks (which come with more permissions on server) and use them to buy permissions you don't have.

Shards are gained whenever you kill an enemy, ranging anywhere from 1 (green slime), to over 600 (Skeletron Prime). There are no assist points - only the killer gets the shards. When a boss is defeated, an admin will assign the relevant shard count to all players, and the additional shards gained by the killer can be kept as a bonus (ie, that player will get double shards for the boss kill).

To see how many shards you've accumulated so far, use the command:

Code:
/shards pouch

This will bring up a total of shards gained since you registered your account. If you want to make a payment to another player (be it for their help or services, or you just want to thank them for something), use the following command, where Playername is the name of the player, and amount is the number of shards to be paid:

Code:
/shards pay Playername amount

Example: /shards pay Sean 1000
This would cause you to pay Sean a total of 1000 shards.

NB: There is no overdraft. You can't spend shards you don't have.

Server Shop

So, you've saved up some shards now, and you want to redeem them? Simple enough - go to the store you want to buy from (items are store specific - you won't get potions from a gun dealer, and you won't get swords from a tailor's store). Official stores are made from Obsidian - you may find all of them together, like a mall.

Store Types:
Blacksmith - the Merchant and Guide will be found here.
GunDealer - Arms dealer found here also
Tailor - Clothier found here
MagicDealer - the wizard will live here
Pharmacist - the nurse will live here
Tech - both the Mechanic and the Tinkerer will be here
Herbologist - the Dryad will be found here

If you want to make sure you are actually in a store, watch for the chat messages:

"Now entering house: (storenamehere)"

Inside the store, you will find a number of signs, displaying the prices of the items sold there. To check the price of an item (and also check whether it is in stock) use the following:

Code:
/ss price item quantity

Example: /ss price sunfury 1
This will search the master price list for sunfury, and give you the shard value, followed by the places it's available from.

NB: You don't need to add a quantity for singular stacking items (weapons, tools, etc.) - it will default to 1. If you are buying blocks (dirt, sand, etc.) or even potions, you can specify the number of them you are looking to buy, and it will display the right price for the quantity, otherwise, it defaults at 1 of the item, showing a per block/potion cost.

NB: The stores will also have most item ID numbers available - this is useful for items with spaces in the names - just substitute the name of the item with the number on the sign.

Once that's done, and you are happy with the price (and have the funds to pay it), use:

Code:
/ss buy item quantity

Example: /ss buy 3 250
This will buy 250 of item number 3, which just so happens to be stone blocks.

If you want to make sure you can see all prices in a shop, without having to read all the signs, use (where "shopname" is the name of the store you've entered):

Code:
/ss shoppricelist shopname

Example: /ss shoppricelist blacksmith
This will show all current prices in the blacksmith's store, if the item is in stock.

For a list of all store names, use:

Code:
/ss shoplist
This will print a list of shop NAMES in chat.

Ranking Up

Ranking up is simple too. Save up shards, and you can use them to level up, so to speak, giving you more access rights on the server, such as the ability to teleport to other players (Gold level), set the colour of your chat (Diamond level), and more. (a lot of possible perks are still in development, but it looks good so far). You can unlock bonus multipliers, reduced shard drops on death, and even get use of earlier commands for free!

To check how many shards you need to unlock the next rank, use:

Code:
/rank check
This will bring up a chat message displaying the name of the current rank, followed by the total shards required to reach the next.

Code:
/rank up
This will level you up to the next rank - deducting the required amount from your total. This will be accompanied by another chat message, congratulating you on your new rank.

Chest/Sign/Building Protection

We all want to protect our stuff, whether it's loot, a building project or even just a hanging sign. These commands will teach you how to secure your items from griefers.

Buildings first - ordinary members don't have access to the commands to protect builds, but they can ask an admin to do it for a shard payment of 1,000 shards. The protection process needs redone when you expand a project, otherwise the new areas aren't covered by the protection. We charge 1,000 shards each time your building needs redone, regardless of the size of editions.
Donators and Diamond level members can use the protection methods themselves, for free. To do this, you need to create a region.

Go to the TOP LEFT block of the area you want to protect, and use:

Code:
/region set 1

Hit the block once (with the appropriate tool for the block). A message will come up, depending on the version of the mod. "Hit point Vector1 set."

Now, go to the BOTTOM RIGHT block of the area, and use:

Code:
/region set 2

Hit the block as you did with the first point (again, using the appropriate tool).
Now you have the temporary points, you need to define the region:

Code:
/region define name

Example: /region define seanshouse
This will make a rectangular protected area called "seanshouse"

As the builder of the region, you should have automatic access to edit it. Failing that, contact an admin to get yourself added to the region's whitelist.

NB: This protects your home against explosive damage, petty damages, such as wall breaking and item theft. It does not protect you from meteor strikes, flooding or corruption.

To add another builder to the region, contact an admin.

Next - sign protection. This is simple. First, think up a password, then use:

Code:
/sset password
then open the sign you want to protect.

To edit a sign you've locked, open the sign, then use:

Code:
/sunlock password
which will enable the sign to be edited by you. Sign will need to be relocked after editing.

Lastly - chest protection. Similar to sign protection. Place your chest (preferably empty), then use:

Code:
/cset
then open the chest. This will set you as the owner, making you the only one who can open it.
If you want the chest to be public but not destroyable, use: /cset public

If instead, you want to password lock your chest, so only people you give the password to can open it, use:

Code:
/clock password
then open the chest

To unlock the chest, use:

Code:
/cunlock password
then open the chest. You need to relock the chest each time.

NB: Protected signs in unprotected buildings are not completely safe. Griefers can break the tiles supporting them and steal them. Be wise, and protect your building before furnishing it.

More to be added. Stay tuned Smile
